2015 Toyota High School Game of the Week- Maine Endwell continues streak, crushes Corcoran
written by Kellie Cowan
Corcoran showed early promise before perennial powerhouse Maine Endwell ran away with a lopsided 62-24 win. The victory extends the Spartans' winning streak to 57, extending their state record set just last week.
The Cougars found themselves in an early 6-0 hole after Maine Endwell scored on their opening drive. Unable to muster much of a response, Corcoran was forced to punt but lucked out when the ball took a Cougar bounce off of a Spartan. Maurice Williams fell on the ball to recover with excellent field position deep in Spartan territory. The Cougars cashed in on that gift when quarterback Aaron White punched in a touchdown and an ensuing 2-point conversion gave Corcoran an 8-6 lead.
The Cougars, however, would only hold the lead briefly. Maine Endwell went on to score 52 unanswered points before Corcoran's offense finally came alive in the fourth quarter. White found John Elliot in the corner of the end zone for a 20-yard touchdown. Then Devonte Flagg made the final score appear a bit more respectable after a five-yard touchdown run in the final minutes of the game.
Flagg finished with 136 yards and the score. Keison Cannon rushed for 100 yards. White completed 42-percent of his passes for 42 yards and two touchdowns, one in the air, his first on the ground.
Corcoran (2-4, 2-3 league) faces a must-win next week when they take on Nottingham (3-3, 3-2 league) in the regular season finale.
